A new profession is born. The first institution in South Asia for professional social work education. Proposed to the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust by Dr. Clifford Manshardt, an American missionary, this is the first venture of the Trust.
The Institute is recognised as a Deemed University, primarily funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This new status facilitates infrastructure expansion necessary for promoting inter-disciplinary and applied research.
As part of the Golden Jubilee initiatives towards holistic and sustainable development, the idea of a Rural Campus is conceived. The Government of Maharashtra (GoM) donates 100 acres of barren land in Sindphal village (Tuljapur Taluka, Osmanabad District), for this purpose.
The inaugural stone for TISS Hyderabad was laid by late C.M. of A.P. Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy in April 2008.
Foundation stone was laid on 9th March 2010 by the Assam CM Dr. Tarun Gogoi in the presence of Mr. Ratan Tata.
